Oak Class Explore Chinese New Year
This week Oak have been exploring Chinese New Year, this has helped us look at comparing different cultures around the world, exploring different places, traditions and beliefs.
We have explored using chopsticks, which has been great to help develop our muscles for handwriting. We have also practiced writing our numbers in English then using Watercolour paints we had a go at painting the Chinese characters, super use of watercolour paints Oak, we didn’t flood them and we chose the thickness of our brush very carefully so we could get just the write effect, a wonderful mixture of art skills and pencil/ brush control.
Our gross motor skills and team work have been tested when we decided we wanted to recreate our own lion and dragon dances as well as our musical skills.
Our Chinese Lanterns have helped us explore our Science around Electricity as we wanted to make them light up, but first we had to be the electrical circuit and pass around the electricity baton, noticing what would happen if a switch wasn’t on, or if a bulb or buzzer was included in our circuit.
Exploring the story of the animals of the Chinese Zodiac has also helped us to understand mythical tales and that belief is something you can not see, we also had lots of clever conversations about months, years and when we are born.
