Jeff Rich, the drummer from Status Quo leads workshop for KS2 pupils

We were thrilled to host Jeff Rich, the drummer from Status Quo on Tuesday for an afternoon of drumming and music at The Meadow on Tuesday this week. Birch Class went over to join in! Jeff lead a workshop for KS2 where we learnt about the history of drums and got to listen to him playing – as well as some willing volunteers! We then got to listen to Jeff play his full drumkit, learning the different parts of the kit as we went and hearing secret stories about rubber drumsticks and drum covers when playing on Top of the Pops!

The afternoon ended with us in the hall, listening to the drum playing and then every child having the opportunity to play a percussion instrument alongside Jeff adlibbing on the drumkit. It was very loud but incredibly amazing! Jeff has kindly donated a pair of his signed, personalised drumsticks that he used for the workshop to auction or raffle off.

We even discovered we had some staff who were fans of Jeff from his Status Quo days. A few selfies were taken and autographs written too!
